Selling on BuyHappyThings.com is straightforward: one flat platform fee per sale, no listing fees, no monthly subscription. Buyers pay no fees.

Platform Fee

BuyHappyThings.com charges a 3.5% platform fee on the item subtotal of each completed sale. The platform fee does not apply to shipping charges.

Example

• Item price: $50.00
• Shipping charged to buyer: $12.50
• Platform fee: $50.00 × 3.5% = $1.75
• Amount you receive from item: $50.00 − $1.75 = $48.25
• Shipping reimbursement: $12.50 (see Shipping section below)

No Listing Fees

There is no cost to list an item on BuyHappyThings.com. You are only charged the platform fee when a sale is completed. If an item does not sell, you owe nothing.

Shipping

Buyers pay for shipping at checkout based on rates calculated by our shipping partner, Shippo, using the item's weight, dimensions, and the buyer's destination. You are reimbursed for the actual shipping label cost when you fulfill the order.

If the actual shipping cost exceeds the estimated amount charged to the buyer by more than 10%, the excess may be deducted from your payout rather than charged back to the buyer. Price your items and set accurate weights to avoid unexpected shortfalls.

Payout Schedule

Payouts are released 8 days after the fulfillment date (the date you mark the order as shipped). This hold period — 5 days for transit plus a 3-day settlement period — allows time for delivery confirmation and gives buyers a brief window to flag issues before funds are released.

This is similar to how marketplaces like Etsy and eBay handle payout timing for new sellers.

Payout Methods

You can receive payouts via:

• Stripe (direct bank deposit) — connect your Stripe account in Seller Settings. Funds are deposited directly to your linked bank account on Stripe's standard payout schedule (typically 2 business days after release). Stripe Connect Standard is free — there are no monthly fees for you or for the platform.
• PayPal — enter your PayPal email address in Seller Settings. Payouts are sent to your PayPal account within 1–2 business days of release. PayPal may charge a fee to receive the transfer depending on your account type.

If both a Stripe account and PayPal email are on file, Stripe is used by default (direct bank deposit is faster and lower cost for most sellers).

Disputed and Refunded Orders

If a buyer opens a Case and a refund is granted before your payout is released, the payout for that order will be cancelled. If a dispute is opened after your payout has already been sent, we may recover the amount from a future payout or request repayment.

If a buyer initiates a credit card chargeback, your payout for that order will be held pending resolution. If the chargeback is decided in the buyer's favor, the disputed amount will be deducted from your account balance.

Taxes

Sales Tax

BuyHappyThings.com collects and remits sales tax on behalf of sellers for orders shipped to buyers in US states that require marketplace facilitator tax collection. Where we are required to collect, the applicable sales tax is added to the buyer's checkout total and remitted directly to the relevant state tax authority by us. You do not need to separately collect or remit sales tax for these transactions.

Your Income Tax Obligations

You are solely responsible for reporting and paying any income taxes on your earnings from BuyHappyThings.com. This applies regardless of whether you receive a tax form from us. We recommend keeping records of your sales and expenses throughout the year.

1099-K Forms

If your total sales through BuyHappyThings.com exceed the IRS reporting threshold in a calendar year, we will issue a 1099-K form to you and to the IRS. Thresholds are set by the IRS and may change year to year. Your 1099-K, if applicable, will be available in your Seller Settings by January 31 of the following year.

Fee Changes

BuyHappyThings.com will provide advance notice of any changes to our fee structure. Fee changes will not apply retroactively to completed transactions.
